Throughout our interviews with corporate counsel, The Mad Clientist hears succinct and hard-hitting views on all aspects of client thinking. As the year unfolds, we are seeing clients’ expectations of law firms changing; demanding you look back, plan ahead and spring into action…all without the client asking.
Two corporate counsel we spoke with recently discuss the investment they expect from their law firms:
“We need our outside law firm to understand our business and follow the direction we are going with it. When we have completed a matter with our firm and are starting another, we want to see the change in how they go about a similar project, and see them applying what they have learned from the previous one.”
– General Counsel, Large Publicly Traded REIT
“I look for a firm able to anticipate future issues, and not just deal with what’s happening in the here and now. My firm needs to address what we can do to avoid or manage future risk as well as understand our current needs. Additionally, they need to be able to address my issues not only from a legal standpoint, but also with an eye toward government regulations as well as an overall understanding of our place in the market.”
– General Counsel, Fortune 50 Retailer
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
