Michael represents retail, hospitality clients (including retail chains, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, spas, and gyms), and financial services companies in single plaintiff cases, as well as wage and hour and complex discrimination class actions in federal and state court. He also focuses his practice on traditional labor law on behalf of management before the National Labor Relations Board. Jean Kuei, Pillsbury’s Labor & Employment Practice Group leader, is an experienced employment attorney representing corporate employers in the firm’s Washington, DC, and San Francisco offices. Jean is known not only for her employment litigation skills but also for her ability to resolve complex, high-stakes workplace disputes effectively and creatively. Jean also serves as a leading member of the firm’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) Litigation and Investigations practice, responding to activist shareholder proposals, conducting race and pay equity audits and advising on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

Jean’s litigation experience covers a diverse range of employment charges and cases, from single or multi-plaintiff retaliation, discrimination, harassment and whistleblower matters to large wage and hour class, collective and PAGA representative actions. She has obtained defense verdicts at trials and at arbitration hearings and resolved several matters on dispositive motions in both court and arbitration. Jean has also served as a hearing officer to the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, which is the central support entity for the federal judicial branch.

Adam Levin

When Adam Levin was asked by the press how he planned to prepare for the Nicollette Sheridan vs. ABC: ‘Desperate Housewives’ trial, he responded “I am going to do yoga.” A self-proclaimed yogi, Adam lives his life following the eightfold path defined in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra. These eight steps serve as guidelines on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life. They offer us a prescription for moral and ethical conduct and self-discipline; they direct attention toward one’s health; and they help us acknowledge the spiritual aspects of our nature.

Adam applies these principles to both his personal life and his career. He believes that by strengthening his body and attaining good health, he is able to, in turn, help others, give back to the community, and be a good leader. Dealing with the everyday stresses of being an aggressive litigator, yoga enables Adam to reboot his brain, start fresh, and approach a case from a new and creative perspective.

William M. Lawson

Mr. Lawson represents management interests in all aspects of labor and employment law, with an emphasis on litigating all types of employment claims in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies, including claims involving discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, wrongful/retaliatory discharge and breach of contract. Mr. Lawson also has significant experience litigating disputes resulting from claims based on restrictive covenants, confidentiality agreements, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition and tortious interference.

Mr. Lawson’s practice is also devoted to traditional labor law with an emphasis on union avoidance and representation of management in the arbitration of grievances brought under collective bargaining agreements.

Harry M. Rowland, III

Harry represents employers in a wide variety of litigation matters with a primary focus on class and collective actions and other complex litigation. He has extensive experience defending complex wage-and-hour cases, including those asserting off-the-clock, regular-rate, time-rounding, and misclassification claims, as well as Title VII pattern or practice claims and other representative actions. Harry also defends employers in single-plaintiff cases and arbitrations and before administrative agencies.

Earlier in his career, Harry clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Charles A. Pannell, Jr. in Atlanta. Through this experience, he honed his legal skills and gained a unique perspective that is invaluable to clients involved in federal litigation.
